How to choose your next smartphone in 2026
Choosing a phone has become hard: there are dozens of near-identical models. This guide helps you decide in five steps.
1. Set a realistic budget
Today a €300-400 phone more than covers daily use: a good screen, all-day battery and a solid camera. Above €800 only makes sense if you shoot a lot of photo or video.
2. The screen matters more than you think
Look for AMOLED and at least 90 Hz — you notice it every time you scroll. The sweet spot is 6.1" to 6.7" depending on your hand and pocket.
3. Camera: megapixels aren't everything
Processing and sensor size matter more. Pixel and iPhone lead in point-and-shoot photography; Samsung and Xiaomi offer more zoom versatility.
4. Battery and charging
From 5,000 mAh you'll comfortably reach the end of the day. Also check charging power: 65W or more saves you in a hurry.
5. Years of updates
The most overlooked factor. Apple, Google and Samsung offer 5 to 7 years of updates — your phone will last far longer.
